In the second phase it channels the soul of Gwyn, former Lord of Sunlight, so some lightning attacks come into the mix.

Pyromancers are going to have to use dark pyromancies to do proper damage here, and the Soul of Cinder will also be damage fairly well by lightning, but only in its first phase. Guess what kind of damage the Soul of Cinder does? If you said “Ice!” then you are, of course, an idiot, although as part of its first phase the Soul of Cinder can cast a lot of sorceries too. From here you can travel back to any of the others, if you’re not ready to fight the Soul of Cinder yet or if there are other bits you want to finish off in the game. There’s a bonfire outside, and lighting it takes you to the Kiln of the First Flame bonfire. Go outside and marvel at the view of all the different kingdoms stacked on top of one another, like that bit in that Inception film you all liked where the city folded up. When you appear there you’re in a mirror of Firelink Shrine, but completely darkened, and with much of it closed off (yes, this version is somehow different to, but also the same as, the original Firelink Shrine and the version of it in the Untended Graves). A cutscene plays, and you’re transported to, duh duh dunnnnn… the Kiln of the First Flame. Once you’ve put Lothric’s head on his throne the Fire Keeper will walk towards the bonfire at the centre of the Shrine and you’ll get an interaction prompt there. To get to the end fight you need to have killed all of the other Lords of Cinder – which includes your little pal Ludleth, by the way, although you’ll be happy to know that you can still transpose souls into weapons at his throne even after he’s gone. It’s another cheat-y sort of fight, but it’s probably not the hardest you’ve had to face. It’s also the gnarly cover-boy for the game, and features in most of the promo material. The Soul of Cinder is the collected souls of everyone who has linked the flame throughout the history of Dark Souls, starting with Gwyn, and including the player character from the first game. Everything in Dark Souls 3 has been working up to this moment. Other things to watch for is him summoning several lightning spears that will track your movements, a good dodge at the last second should avoid all of them though. This is it. The other attack is a rushing lunge attack, dodge to the side and you should be able to strike back.

This will put you right behind him when he lands so he won't have an immediate follow up attack and you can get some strikes in.

The first is a leaping strike that you'll need to dodge to the left and a bit towards the boss. If you keep your distance from the boss during this phase he will do one of two attacks that will leave him open for retaliation if dodged correctly. It is a five hit combo that if you get caught in it you are almost guaranteed to be dead. This is your cue to dodge backwards, repeatedly. The main thing to watch for during this phase is for him to pull his sword back to brace himself for an attack. Back up while he is recovering, or the explosion of fire will make you. Once you have defeated his other four phases, he will regenerate all of his health. And if you die trying, you can start over at the same phase without having lost much. Since this is the hardest phase of the boss, and also the start of the fight, it can pay off to be aggressive here so as to get him to move on to the next phase quickly. If you dodge too soon you're going to get hit, but you should be able to dodge again to avoid the rest of the combo and be able to heal up. You'll need to watch for his slow charging attacks where he pulls back to strike, and then seems to pause before he swings. This is going to be the first phase of the boss no matter what, and can be one of the harder ones to deal with as he can be very aggressive here. This boss will choose a phase at random after you defeat his first sword phase, so keep that in mind that the phases shown below may now show up in the same order shown here. It's been a long journey to get here, fill with many hard bosses to go up against, and this guy is no different. This is it, the last and final boss of Dark Souls 3.
